The 47th Civil Support Team is the Mississippi National
Guard’s full time response team for emergencies or terrorist events that involve
weapons of mass destruction, toxic industrial chemicals or natural disasters.
The 47th is able to rapidly deploy, assist
local first-responders in determining the nature of an attack and provide
medical, communications and technical support and advice. The CST can help pave
the way for the identification and arrival of follow-on state and federal
response assets. They provide initial advice on what the agent may be, assist
first responders in the detection assessment process, and are the first military
responders on the ground, so that if additional federal resources are called
into the situation, they can serve as an advance party.
The 47th Civil Support Team mission has
expanded to assist in many diverse and complex incident situations. In recent
years, the 47th Civil Support Team has assisted in hazardous material
identification and recommended handling and cleanup procedures for a multitude
of unique situations. These include, but not limited to train derailments,
tornados, oil spills, floods, and hurricanes
The 47th Civil Support Team is primarily a
State of Mississippi asset and is available to any Incident Commander statewide
24 hours a day, 7 days a week with no advance notice. The 47th CST is available
at NO cost and never seeks reimbursement for any expenses or services. The 47th
CST can also provide remote phone or internet based reach-back and technical
advice without deploying to the incident scene.
