The base’s location provides impressive airspace over an area directly adjacent to the Gulf of Mexico. The airspace is spread over 11,000 square miles from surface level to 60,000 feet altitude. This provides prime opportunities for Joint Marine Operations training and Air-Sea Battle exercises.
The CRTC also oversees a Tactical Training Range 70 miles north at Camp Shelby. The Shelby Air To Ground Range offers 1,100 square miles for Air-to-Ground and Close Air Support training such as target and strafing zones, laser capacity, and multiple radio frequencies. There is an onsite Range Control Officer.
The CRTC has a Small Arms Range for live fire training and a dedicated Medical Training Facility.
