Colonel Tommy F. Tillman is the A3 Director of Operations for the Mississippi Air National Guard at Joint Force Headquarters, Jackson, Mississippi. He develops and executes statewide initiatives in accordance with the Assistant Adjutant General and Adjutant General’s vision to ensure the Mississippi Air National Guard’s unity of effort.
Colonel Tillman coordinates the more than 2,300 Airmen of the 186th Air Refueling Wing, the 172d Airlift Wing, and the Gulfport, Mississippi Combat Readiness Training Center to maximize mission effectiveness in both Federal and state operations. Colonel Tillman enlisted in the Mississippi Air National Guard in March 1987. After five years of enlisted service, he commissioned through the Academy of Military Science in July 1992. Colonel Tillman started his flying career at Reese Air Force Base, Texas and is a command pilot with more than 4,450 total flying hours in the C-141B/C and C-17A aircraft. He has held numerous positions at the squadron and wing level and through his expertise, was selected as Initial Cadre for the 172d Airlift wing’s transition to the C-17 Globemaster III. Prior to assuming his current position, Colonel Tillman served as the 172d Airlift Wing Commander and Air Commander, directing the operations, maintenance, and support of the Wing’s assigned C-17 Globemaster III aircraft tasked with providing global strategic and tactical airlift in support of National Command Authority objectives and the objectives of the Governor of Mississippi.
